To be honest, I’m not sure how I ended up reading this book. I don’t remember checking it out but it should up on my library shelf so I thought, what the heck.

This love story is told through a rather convoluted chronological structure – some chapters move forward in a straight chronology from the starting point of the book, while other chapters take us back to formative moments in the protagonists life. From the title, I would have thought it was a book about a couple that keeps meeting at the same time every year, but instead it’s about Quinn and Minnie Cooper, who meet at a New Year’s party and discover they’d been born on the same day in the same hospital room.   Mini’s mother has convinced Mini her whole entire life was unlucky because Tara, Quinn’s mom, stole the name the Coopers had selected. Quinn, of course, knew nothing about it.

It's amazing both Minnie and Cooper are as high-functioning as they are because they had pretty terrible upbringing.  Minnie’s mother has looked down on Minnie since birth – since she wasn’t named Quinn.  Where as Quinn’s father left his mother, Tara, at an early age because he could not deal with Tara’s mental illness.

There were aspects of the book I enjoyed, but the time jumps were too much. And Minnie’s mother was not good to her and it seems like the resolution of the story brushed over that too much.

I liked the love story, but not the subplots.  Don’t know that I could recommend this book.
