For the majority of this book I was nervous that nothing good would ever happen. I don't always need a happy ending but when the main characters are constantly acting awful you can't help but think about the karma that has to be coming towards them.

I think that was the reason it took me awhile to finish the book for that reason. I could only deal with so much negativity each day.

After saying all that I was very happy I finished it. At first I thought it would not end the way I wanted it to end and it didn't. It was much better then what my imagination had led me to believe. I am eager to watch the movie now.

Nice! Especially enjoyed the chorus. Rachel was great. How did Galloway turn so quick? Saw it coming for Pemberton twenty pages out.

Serena is the new wife of an owner of a timber empire. She moves with him to the lumberyard and proves herself to be equal among the men. However, a woman and illegitimate child from her husband's past begin to get in the way of their life together. This story kept me reading and wanting to find out what happened next. I found the parts about life in the timber industry most interesting.

Intriguing, quick read, though sometimes cliché. I enjoyed the historical fiction aspect about Western NC logging business and the conservationist movement.

The first 150 pages or so were mostly background, but I felt myself still being interested in that piece of the story. Definitely enjoyed the action in the last 200 pages or so. Also really liked the way some pieces of the story were told. It was almost like a play, where a scene with the main characters would end and a few of the side characters would come into the picture during the next act, to describe what came of the actions of the main characters. Cool way to get the information across.
