At first I thought this book was silly and goofy until I realised how depressingly relatable it was then I cried
Gregor only worked as hard as he did to support his family and their nice large apartment, even wanting to send his sister to the conservatory. But as soon as he turns into a cockroach they strip him of all humanity. Even when they’re abusing him he still loves them.
a requirement of family duty to suppress one’s aversion and to endure—nothing else, just endure.
His dad threw apples at him, no one treated his wounds. They all found good jobs, They thanked God for his death and they moved apartments.

I don't know if I loved this because I related so hard to parts of it or because I'm a philosophy sucker who loves nothing more than a complex exploration of what it means to be human, but I really loved this. Despite the absurdity, everything in this book felt so grounded and realistic, with the main character losing more of his humanity as he grows more and more isolated. I don't want to spoil the ending, but I really loved it. I couldn’t recommend this highly enough, especially due to how short it is.

A classic — I needed three months to being myself to read this, and finished it in a single sitting of three hours. It's grim, the meaning is quite not visible yet, but the fall of the bread winner is depicted quite well, metaphorically. Best read without snacks.
