"The Black Flamingo" is a heartwarming, beautiful and well-written book. It's good to see this kind of representation of diversity and have the struggles we face in our society (such as racism, identity etc.) included. The characters are very likeable and I grew to love them over the course of the story. The most amazing part about this book was the way it was written and the inclusion of the poems "Michael" writes. I can only recommend this book from the bottom of my heart.

This book is so good it literally caused me to question my entire existence. It hit me so deeply and I cannot recommend it enough as long as you're okay with not being able to do anything except stare at a wall for several hours after.
second read: still fantastic and still looking deeper into my soul and my identity

“Be a beautiful thing.
Be the moonlight too.”
This was such a lovely, quick read. I loved that it was told in poetry entwined with prose. This book got me out of a reading slump and made me feel warm inside 🖤

what a beautiful book!! such a quick read, i couldn’t put it down!! such a beautiful and interesting story about intersections of identity, growing up, and becoming who you want to be. i think this is a very universal story in that everyone who reads it can get something out of it. absolutely loved this and will be recommending it to my friends!!
