Donna Tartt

3.96 AVERAGE

This book combines the claustrophobia of Dostoyevsky and the depression and hopelessness of Dickens. Yet, I couldn't put it down. I did have to take breaks periodically because events were too difficult. This tome is almost 800 pages of hardback, small print, and the story never leaves you skimming. I read every single word, sometimes more than once. The writing was deep with Bradbury type sentences. No one in the story was innocent and no one was really guilty- misunderstanding and inability to communicate moved these characters forward and apart. Theo, main character and narrator, couldn't get a break. I loved the connection to art and the information about stolen art- very interesting. This book deserves to be on the Best of 2013 lists.

What a ride. Wasn't expecting to be soaked in like that. Absolute gem. Beautiful writing. Makes you feel everything as if you were in the scene. Absolute recommend. Absolute literature gem. The secret history is next. On top of it totally loveable human. Watched a few early interviews. She is sweet, sensitive, articulate and witty. Just a total winner package

Donna Tartt is a pen-wielding genius.

A very well written book with interesting characters - worth the 800+ pages!

A little too aware and a little too close my my life 10/10 masterpiece.
