Too short - felt rushed and incomplete.

A solid ending to this series that is genuinely creepy at moments. I wish the book were a little longer though - it felt rushed at the end and was just... over. I was not mentally prepared for that because there was still sixty pages left in the book so I thought I had a lot more story left, alas those extra pages were just excerpts from the first 3 books. Empty Smiles is about reuniting the gang and getting Ollie away from the Smiling Man who has her captive. Every day Ollie is trapped on a train that turns into a carnival whenever they arrive at a new location. During the day the carnival seems fine, but at night the clowns hunt. When the carnival reaches Ollie's hometown her friends will have a chance to rescue her... if they dare. Fun, great concept, but too short for me. I want more! Can this series continue when the kids get into high school?

A lovely conclusion to the book. The ending was a little too quickly wrapped up for me but oh well. I just have to say though, this tetralogy would, and did, scare an adult. Very well-done!

It was good but felt very rushed near the end. Too much build up and not enough plot.

This was a great conclusion to the Small Spaces middle grade quartet featuring the uber-creepy Smiling man. Coco, Brian and Phil team up again to try for one last chance to rescue Ollie from the clutches of the mysterious bad guy who has her captive.

This book is set in summer and takes place at a haunted carnival run by the ultimate scary, creep-tastic characters: clowns! Everything comes full circle and I thought the series ended on a satisfactory note. These books might be better for older tweens (some parts could be a little much for younger readers). Definitely a great #SpookySeason read if you're looking for some good PG thrills.

Much thanks to @prhaudio for a complimentary audio copy in exchange for my honest review!

If I hadn’t already been terrified of clowns, this would’ve properly horrified me. This would make an incredible TV series. The kids are all strong and have well rounded personalities and a sense of justice, the stakes are just high enough, the setting is spooky and thrilling. I can’t recommend this series enough for people who want a Halloween time/fall read to get you into the spooky season. They’re fast reads with tons of atmosphere and touch on some heavier subjects like parents death and possible remarriage, bullying, and acceptance. I LOVE THIS SERIES!!! I’m so sad this was the last one!
