DNF: Audiobook was PAINFUL to listen to. I enjoyed the first bit, but as the story progressed, characters did not. Storylines implausible (seriously—the dad has significant signs of depression and/or dementia for a year and NO ONE DOES ANYTHING?). Son of the daughter (conceived by rape) is somehow being raised by someone? Like others said, it may work if you like telenovela style writing, and it might be better in book vs. Audiobook form but for me, I will return this one to Libby and try again…
Kind of a slow read for me, but an interesting up-and-down story through a year of family or people you choose as family.
I really struggled to get into this book and to finish it- It was a mix of uninteresting characters and a pretty slow story. The relationships in this book, specifically within the family, were completely unbelievable. How do all of these people speak to each other and accept all of the flaws and deception? There are lies that are accepted without any follow up conversation or resentment, including an almost death- It's a nice sentiment, but ultimately entirely unbelievable that people would be so accepting without having other relationships in their lives to talk things through with.

Listened to audiobook. Started off interesting then took a political turn that was not necessary. It actually ruined the book as the interesting story lines were abandoned.
Eh I’ll be generous because it was an easy read. Interesting enough family dynamics but also didn’t really go anywhere and I didn’t care too much about the characters
Lots. Of. Drama. I was multi-tasking while listening or I may have returned it early on. It was good; the author jammed a lot of drama into the book but stopped short of it becoming too farcical.
You think the book is going to be about the parents and then the author takes you for a ride. The book has a little of everything. Not sure why the author chose the opening scene; that was almost enough for me to stop listening.
