This book was awful. The only reason I finished it was because it's part of a reading challenge I'm taking part in.

First and foremost, there was no plot. Zero. Zilch. The first red flag was when someone's CHILDREN were sent to a camp for them to explore their sexuality without any influence from others (meaning their PARENTS). Then there was the person thinking about how it felt coming out of her mother's vagina when she was born (who does that??). The rest of the book went downhill from there. From all four of the couples from the same family going through divorce at the same time (one ends up not), to one divorced couple considering getting back together if they can have a throuple, to the Trump derangement disorder, and finally trying to become more environmentally friendly. By going vegan and turning their almond farm into a solar panel farm. Wtf did I just listen to? It was awful. I hope no one made money off of this book.

What I liked about the book: how much LA was in this book: neighborhoods, streets, landmarks; the blended Jewish/Catholic family, which always makes me feel very seen; and the inclusion of and reckoning with climate change, especially as it impacts LA. I believe more media needs to discuss the climate crisis, and I’m glad this book did.

What I didn’t like about this book: pretty much everything else!! This book was sooo melodrama. Way too many major life events for the characters that resolve quickly without consequence. This book did too much.

Definitely a telenovela, I hated everyone besides the sisters until the end. 3.5/5 because I didn’t like how it ended
