2.75. This was a second chance for me. After being highly disappointed with A Blade So Black, I didn’t think I was going to read anything else by Elle. Glad I gave her another try because this was a fun read. Jane Eyre isn’t a beloved classic for me, so that probably affected my enjoyment of this read. A little too insta-lovey, though. I think the story could have benefitted from a slower burn between the characters. 🥁

I am always down for a retelling. I enjoyed how the plot was different between the original, having Rochester be more of a red flag then there just being a really weird age gap. What I didn't like though is that they took out the second half of the book where Jane meets the Rivers.

Since I have not read the original book I had no idea what to expect from this book, but I kinda liked it. Even though it might have been more enjoyable with more knowledge of the original book.
It was slow for my taste but when the story started it was hard to put down.
And boy oh boy the plotwist at the ending was really unexpected,

However it was not an easy read for me, mainly because of the space of the story, I like it. Because of the descriptions that were not long but detailed, I found it easy to imagine the palace and feel like I am also there.
Most of the characters are loveable, but you can also kind of understand what and why the 'nonloveable' characters do.

Thank for Harper Collins for letting me read an ARC of this book <3
