O.W.L.s Readathon 2020

“I point at him. "Unless you're the culprit. And that's why you took the money."
"Yeah," he says again with the same annoying inflection. "And that's why I'm helping you. Because I'm the world's stupidest criminal.”

This was okay. I think some elements were really good, especially the scenes Kennedy has with her father at the hotel, I actually teared up a bit. But I found the behavior and decisions that Kennedy had throughout to be exhausting, and really annoying. She's supposed to be this really smart person, but she always seems to be completely and utterly blind to everything around her. I also didn't feel any real connection to any of her friends (in the first universe or the second), which made all of her scenes and "revelations" with/about them feel empty. The love interest, Dylan, was a decent character, but we hardly spend any real time him and Kennedy so their relationship feels a little one note. Which really sucks, because there was some real potential there. Overall this book feels pretty forgettable, but I'm not opposed to reading more by this author in the future.

A look at what would've happened if you made a different life-defining choice. This veered more on the Y side of YA, so it's probably more enjoyable for actual teens. Check out my full review at Forever Young Adult.

An adorable, feel-good, predictable love story of a YA novel with a host of lovable, somewhat stereotypical, and quirky characters.

Overall, some great life messages for young adults:
1. The grass is not always greener on the other side, so stop comparing yourself to other (especially via social media) and spend the time loving yourself, your life, and those around you.
2. The choices that we make do not exist in a vacuum. Every choice you make will have some sort of consequence, good or bad or both, and will undoubtedly affect others in your life. Just as their choices, good or bad or both, may affect you. It's important to think about our choices and how they may impact others, but also to give ourselves grace when we happen to make a mistake.
3. There is SO much more to life than academic achievement. Pushing yourself to mental breakdown is never going to be worth it. In fact, by letting things naturally happen great things are still bound to happen. What is meant to be will be.

(Now thinking on it, I'll give this a 4 rather than a 3. It wasn't to mist eloquent book to read, but it kept my attention and I appreciate the quality messages!)

DNF at 25%

Girl has a life. Girl falls and hits her head. Girl wakes up a completely different person. Girl cannot seem to grasp this concept (even though her brother is obsessed with parallel universes and talks about them constantly). Girl keeps making ridiculous remarks because she still is trying to merge old life with new one. Girl is stupid.

Okay, I get being confused about waking up a completely different person. I imagine how I would be if this were me. However, at what point do you stop questioning everything and start asking why and how?

The paragraph that made me close this book forever:
"My clothes are gone. My T-shirts, my jeans, even my dad's old leather jacket. They've all been replaced by stuff I've never seen before. Dresses, skirts, sparkly tops, and...
I stifle another gasp.
Windsor Academy Uniforms!"

Kennedy, you just freakin' did a bunch of stuff that's not normal. You're wearing a Windsor Academy uniform, you've already learned you're living this life now. What the actual heck has to happen for you to accept this crap?

I usually just delete books that I don't finish because I don't want them clogging up my read list, but this one deserved a special review because the main character was soooooo dumb.

My main problem with the book was how naive the main character was. You can’t say someone is an investigative reporter and then have them not figure out something you figured out the second you even put it as a possibility. Other than that it was still a fun and cute book I just hate when I feel THAT much smarter than the main character that I’m literally screaming at her like hi idiot think clearer!

Cool crossover genre

A little SiFi a little realistic and totally awesome! I loved the complexity of this books basis and it’s genre.

To each there own! I keep seeing so many “DNF” reviews and honestly it’s starting to make me a little mad I thought this book was good maybe not my top 10 favorite books but it’s definitely not at the bottom of books I have read!

This book really makes you think about the what if’s in your life and brings up the age old thought of every choice you make has its own set consequences.

I would recommend!
