I loved this book so much as a kid! It never left my mind after the reading experience I had with my teacher reading it during reading time for my class when I was in 4th grade. With that being said, my review may be a little biased.

Far too reliant on the Disney versions of fairy tales.

I actually really enjoyed this book. However, I can only give it three stars because nothing (absolutely nothing) was resolved at the end. Since all story-lines were left open, the reader is forced to buy the sequel, which does not make this reader very happy.

I really wanted to like this......really I did. Looking back on it it definely wasn't the best book I've ever read. This book would be awesome as a movie. You don't have to change anything about it.....the script is all there. The thing is I really didn't want a movie, I wanted a book. I was really excited to read this because I've discovered I like reading "fairy tale" kind of books. Jack and the beanstalk is a pretty well known fairy tale story so I was excpecting something that was different but stil stuck with the overall storyline. The main'character's name is Jack and at some point he does climb a beacnstalk, but other than that, there's pretty much no resemblence to the original "jack and the beanstalk" story. A year or two ago I'd probably have really liked this. Overall, it was an okay book. You'll probably end up liking it....maybe....or not :P

This was a book that I started casually, was enthralled quickly, and addicted by the end. You get to know and love Jack and May so quickly that you will need to have the second and third book ready. I am excited to use this as a read-aloud with my students.

Cute, great plot and action, and I love the characters. Except they're a little two dimensional. And not as much fairy tale action as I would have liked, but still a great book and the character relationships are the best part. Ended a little abruptly. I feel like the plot goes so fast that there's isn't a lot of depth, but fortunately it's just a kid's book, and it's very enjoyable.

this book is fantastic, i had a great time reading it and i can't quite believe why it has passed so unnoticed to the mainstream who watches Once Upon A Time as it was the lattest and best idea in the world. now i wish i had read this book when i bought it two years ago, when i didn't have the "pollution" of OUAT in my head. i would have enjoyed much more.

definitely this book is highly recommended to anybody who likes fairy tales retelling with a twist à la Once Upon A Time

This book is such a great read. I really enjoy this mixed up fairytale world that Riley has created. Jack has to take princess rescuing classes, his grandpa hopes Jack can redeem the family name since Jack’s father is a no good thief who brought giants and death to their world. But what’s the point of taking princess rescuing classes if there aren’t any princesses to rescue? But when he complains to his grandpa about that a princess pops out of thin air right into his arms, well… not right into his arms a couple feet out! Jack knows it’s a princess because her t-shift says ‘Punk Princess’ he’s never heard of punk but he has to get her out of the village since there’s a terrible hunter after her. The same hunter who was sent after Snow White. Jack and May have to find out where this hunter took her beloved grandma, even though some fairy tales end with happily ever after, there are more that don’t. There are so many fairy tales that are dark and dangerous and it feels like Jack and May have to go through all of them to rescue her grandma. Fast fun and funny this is a book that is for fourth grade on up who love mixed up fairy tales.

This is one of those books that if you are in a reading funk, or have reader's block, or have read a slew of bad books all at once will reawaken your love of reading and encourage you to pick up another book. A great twist on a whole bunch of fairy tales, mostly Jack and the Beanstalk with some Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, Red Riding Hood, and so much more all rolled up into a magical land where May, a girl from our world lands. She is wearing a shirt that says Punk Princess, so obviously everyone assumes that she is a princess. Honestly a great read and I need to find my second book so I can get started on that!

This book was super amazing and cute. I loved it, totally fun and funny. I am a little sad that I don't own this book, and will eventually have to rectify that.

Jack is a boy who is failing at his hero training classes, he just doesn't see the point as there aren't that many princesses left. Until one wearing a punk princesses shirt falls into his arms, well a foot away from his arms. May is from our world but has ties that she doesn't quite understand to Jack's fairytale land.

Going on an quest to rescue May's grandmother Jack and May visit some iconic fairytale scenarios and they aren't quite what we imagined. Fun fast, adorable and amazing. This book is for 4th graders on up, anyone who likes a mixed up fairytale, and people who are just looking for some fun escapist adventure.
