Eve Babitz, namedropping final boss.
I’ll never write the perfect review. I’ve never loved an author more.

Absolutely love the writing and Eve’s ability to transport you to LA and California. The heat of the sun, dryness of the air and howling of the winds. Lovely descriptions of everyone she meets or knows makes you so want to be her if even just for a weekend.

Couldn’t get myself to finish the last 60 pages, it was such a slog. Sorry, Eve.

Elvis gave me a god complex, and what I mean by that is I watched that movie and fell back in love with music. I met up with my 14 year old self and bought her the red electric guitar she would love. I decided my summer would be a 60’s LA-esque flower-power vibe except all my clothes would be from Urban Outfitters… I just needed a pair of cowboy boots. Eve Babitz was the first person who made me feel seen. As a woman, and a mess, and the young girl hurtling towards this thing we call life. Both big-boobed, cat loving lone souls with no idea what to do and a love of LA. I just love this book. I feel like it’s my Bible. This is my Sally Rooney. It makes me want to write. It makes me want to sing old songs and fall in love with Elvis and do nothing with my life but float around. Thank you, Eve Babitz. I can’t wait to tell my kids about you. I’m gonna be such a cool fucking mum. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I feel that to truly enjoy this book you need to already have a sort of reverence for 1960's Los Angeles, the LA party girl glamour, or perhaps Eve Babitz herself. Took me a long time to get into the writing style.
