The entirety of the Green Bone Saga is perfection.

I loved reading about Janloon and its politics and societal (dis)advantages from a neutral clan member. This should be read after Jade Legacy to really appreciate all the cameos and Easter eggs. Fonda Lee exceeds in pacing and character development, because in less than 150 pages, I became so attached to our new trio of characters.

This is a letdown. Pulo is not a great central character and came across as whiny. I love the pulpiness of the original series but I think it works better for me in reading form, where I can read very fast.

Novella, VERY short at only 112 pages. Good stuff, up to the standards of the mainline trilogy. I'd definitely read the mainline books first; there's a lot of culture that, while explained briefly, you'd be better off understanding from them. It's also a prequel to those books, so you'll see a handful of the same characters earlier in their lives.

not that i am, in any capacity, an unbiased person when it comes to this series, but this novella just might be my favorite thing ever! it comes in a capacity removed from the more “inside” parts of janloon, unattached to the two clans, so you get to read about the gbs world outside of those directly influencing it (which was remarkable, in its own right). the plot was simple enough, but with a core of something i honestly think only fonda lee can invent. and there were a few character dropins that had my heart jumping (i missed them so much!) so all in all, i’m extremely in love with this tiny fragment of the greenbone saga.

thank you to subterranean press for the arc.

A nice fast story. Enjoyable because it is so brief. Set in the Green Bone world before Jade City. But should be read after the main trilogy. Adds more to the world we don't see much in the main books.
