A hugely enjoyable two-wheeled-gastro-tour of France. Perked up with wit, a sprinkling of history and lots of patisserie. I listened to the audiobook, which is read by Felicity Cloake and would thoroughly recommend.

I enjoyed Felicity’s writing (she’s very funny) but most of the dishes didn’t exactly make me hungry - way too much offal for my liking! That said, the journey itself was enjoyable to follow and I liked her croissant rating system!

This was my 2022 christmas gift, which I read during the 2023 Christmas, but I wasn't lucky enough to read it in a french café eating croissants. No matter, I enjoyed it a lot anyway!
There was a bit complaining and a small obsession with lycra, but all excused, since the tour of France on a bike, while eating amazing food and pastries and drinking wonderful wines overshadows anything!
It kind of made me wonder why I never tried such a thing until I remembered that I couldn't cycle uphill even if my life depended on that.
Hats off to the amazing effort, that she lived to tell the tale, and making my mouth water more than once!

A fabulous read, it made me feel hungry most of the way through. Love the recipes at the end of each stage, there’s a few I’ll be trying.
Fascinating snippets about the French way of life - I’ll be looking at croissants in a new light from now on.

Lovely read - successfully made me want to go to France and eat a lot of pastry.

I have never been to France, and I don't consider myself a foodie, but this travel and food memoir was such a cozy delight. Following Cloake's journey across France on a bike made me so very happy I was NOT riding across France on a bike, but her descriptions of the food and culture and landscape were so delightful! Also, her croissant rating scale is TOUGH ..... and made me cringe at what her rating would be of my weekly Starbucks pastries.
