This was a super easy & fun read. It was a solid 4 because of the originality of the story but I dropped it to a 3.75 because there were just way too many pop culture & real life people references. A classic Ali Hazelwood story in the world of women in STEM. The two MC’s were super delightful & had great chemistry.

3.5 ⭐️
Sometimes you just want a trashy smutty romcom that even though wildly improbable, is still entertaining
(Yes Bee is annoying with all the denial and there are some VERY CRINGEWORTHY sex scenes but like… I’ve read A Glasgow Kiss. This at least has a PLOT)

Ali Hazelwood writes the BEST women in STEM. I immediately became obsessed with the Love Hypothesis (Olive was a 3rd year PhD candidate, I was a 3rd year PhD candidate) so I have been looking forward to Love on the Brain ever since it was announced. I had the hardest time putting this book down and ended up reading it in 2 days and it is so deserving of 5 stars.
Love on the Brain follows Bee, a neuroscientist post-PhD who is sent by the NIH to help develop a new helmet for astronauts with NASA. Her co-lead? The guy who absolutely hated her (or did he??) in grad school, Levi Ward. Although they didn’t overlap for long, each of them made a very distinct impression on the other, leading to a very interesting dynamic once they reunite at NASA. I love these tropes she included- MMC falls first, we’ve got some “You’ve Got Mail” interactions, and both of them are badass scientists. The banter is great, Bee’s obsession with Marie Curie is fantastic (and how I feel about Rosalind Franklin who was ROBBED), and Levi very obviously pining after Bee even though she’s convinced herself that he absolutely HATES her. I did not want to put this book down and cannot wait to reread soon!
Ali Hazelwood really captures the feel of what science is like in a way that doesn’t gatekeep the profession or overcomplicate it and I’ve loved every second I’ve spent reading her books. Now I’m off for probably another reread of her book instead of my own lab work. And if you’re curious about the duck comemnts, please watch the Youtube video by zefrank1 canned True Facts About the Duck (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6k01DIVDJlY)- you’re welcome.
