This is a heartbreaking fiction about front line soldiers in the First World War. It reads more like a memoir than a fiction, I'm sure much of the content is first hand. For me it was a page turner and as emotional as it was I couldn't put it down.
The writing is just amazing. The characters are so well illustrated and deeply changed by their experiences it is just heartbreaking. It really does make you think about the lost individuals in a more personal way.
History has distanced is from these stories and this book is so relatable it really brings it home that these boys were all so special and unique and loved and ultimately destroyed by this war.
