i rly loved this book

i am a sucker for the normal ppl / one day second chance love story, and normally the undeniable invisible string theory of things bothers me because it feels like a cop out, but in this book the emotional connections between them are well-written enough that the chemistry is palpable through the text. that is extremely rare for me in my romcom reading experience to feel. lots of good showing, not telling

i also enjoyed the fact that these characters weren’t your all-american-beautiful-model archetypes — they felt kind of unlikable in a way that was likable because it was real and awkward and relatable and honest. life dealt them cards and they dealt with them responsibly and respectfully. i like the gus/junie/cary dynamic, and how it wasn’t overdone to make them a big happy family + i like shiloh’s parental approach and realism and general loyalty to her priorities in life. she was consistent and not changing her mind just for the plot!!!
they both were so similar at times, but in ways i think would end up net positive.

i do think some of the story is rushed, especially the latter half, but the before/after style of chapters is my kryptonite so i forgive her
slow-paced
