This story was in turns boring and annoying. A demon tries to convince you, the reader, to burn the book and alternates this with stories of his escape from hell.

I was expecting a quick witted narrative and characters but it was not so. I kept hoping for more intensity, thrills, or at least something to keep my mind engaged- again, no luck.

My first Clive Barker book. I did listen to the audio book which I imagine is a wholly different experience from physically reading this book since it has the meta narrative. I enjoyed it but will probably ultimately forget it. I enjoyed the plot but it got a bit repetitive at points, so a middling rating.

The book that made me fall in love with Barker's writing. A perfect encapsulation of horror and the power of storytelling.

I try to reread this every October.

A good idea, well executed which somehow managed to fall flat on it's arse.

This is not a return to horror, but more of a dark fantasy with some horror elements. I liked it, but did not love it and I was disappointed and really truly hoped for a true return by Mr. Barker, but instead end up with a book like Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett except Mister B. Gone is not as funny or as well crafted. Overall it is not a bad read and if you are a Barker fan you will read this no matter what anyone says in order to make your own judgements.

This was one of the best horror novels I ever read. The way the story was written was, to me anyway, very new and interesting. It's not actually that gory (I prefer horror without too much gore). A very good book.

It’s not a bad book. It’s not great either. The parts that I liked I really liked but I felt like there was a lot to slog through. It was a fun gimmick though!
