Set in New Zealand, this should have been much more atmospheric. Setting all of this death and darkness in such a vibrant, lush place, but no. The plotting was off and the characters felt weirdly flat. It was an ok mystery but the villains were almost flagged.

I really enjoyed this book. I've read a lot of romance by this author and I was blown away by how well her talents transferred to this genre.
As always, her characters and worldbuilding were so vividly described that I felt like I was there in person. I loved the depiction of the small coastal New Zealand town, and how the main character (Anahera) responds to moving back there.
Also I'm not usually a huge romance fan, but I really liked the love interest and I was rooting for them throughout. All of the characters were amazingly written and I will be rereading this book purely to visit them again.

I always enjoy Nalini Singh books, she’s probably one of my favorite authors and this is an excellent murder/mystery novel. If you like Nora Roberts’ mysteries like The Search, you’d enjoy this.

Really enjoyed this book, though I didn't like the conclusion of the mystery.

This was recommended to me as a mystery romance and it is way more of a mystery. I would not categorize it as a typical romance.
