3.5!! super quick and easy and fun. she threw in a LOT of tropes in here lol, some of which include: best friends brother, romance writer who’s never been in love, he was her celeb crush when she was younger, ONE BED, and friends w benefits to lovers. the writing was fine and the smut was sprinkled in and i think me liking the characters made it better. they do something in the garden which was fun and (he does pottery as a hobby) i hoped they would make a reference to the famous ghost (movie) pottery scene and they did 😋

the FMC was queer and i always love when they explore that!! part of her process to write her next book was to meet up with her ex’s so we got a peak into that.

the MMC is an alcoholic and so it also follows him through his sobriety journey which definitely added to the emotional aspects of this book. i thought both of the main characters were super lovable and was happy they could find each other <333 some supeerrrr corny stuff but it added to the fun, and also she made the FMC a bit of a klutz but it felt endearing but also made it funny and at times awkward, but in a fun way lol. i definitely laughed out loud. there were also quite a few side characters and sometimes i was a little confused why they were there but i think she’s creating a universe because this is the second book in this world.

minor SPOLIER:
if there’s one thing i dislike ALMOST as much as a pregnancy trope (none of those in sight here thank god) is when a main character gets a tattoo for the other. SOMEtimes it can maybe be a tasteful, or subtle, but this one was not lmaoo. she got an em-dash (-) because “it’s her favorite punctuation but also reminds her of him because… his name is dash…) and that could have been fine but she got a turquoise heart (to match his eyes.) right above it lol. soooo that was a bit much.

not sure if i’ll read her other books but i enjoyed this one!! it gave me the (sort of?) steamy rom-com HEA i was looking for (:

I had a hard time sympathising with Sophie some of the time and I liked Dash, but it just felt like there was something missing

The ending saved it, the main character felt like she had too many flaws and problems, although that is realistic. I do understand being an author who hasn't fallen in love because I am aspiring author who hasn't fallen in love. The characters all felt authentic with lots flaws. The story was fun and intriguing with lots of plot twists, haha.
