Another great Amelia Peabody mystery. This one follows Amelia and her family in England as Emerson attempts to finish the manuscript of his latest book. All he wants is to be left alone, but of course murder and intrigue follow them, as usual.

Welp! This one didn't age well, though I recall reading it repeatedly as a high schooler. It is as wildly engaging and driven by as many delightful characters as any of Peters' other books.

Ramses' cousin Violet is hilarious ("Dead! Dead!") I didn't love the joke of her imminent fatness, though I firmly stand behind her quest for muffins and cake in all situations.

The whole plotline with Aisha is not good -- not a fan of having the only woman of color in the book be a tragic sex worker who nobly sacrifices herself for some white folks.

Makes me miss the Oriental Institute museum on the UChicago campus! This, for once, was a good choice for quarantine audiobook readings. I especially love the incorrigible and precocious Ramses.
