Don’t read this book unless you want to ruin your week. Every character is genuinely terrible, and not in an interesting, meaningful, or funny way. It’s like watching a train wreck. Also heavy content warning for animal cruelty.

This book was a wild ride. It's not a fun book to read at all. I just have a great attraction to books about twenty-something/thirsty-something women in a city not knowing what to do with their lives. I call them "sad girl books". They're my current favorite genre to read. Of course, this was popularized by the queens, Ottessa Moshfegh and Sally Rooney then other authors started to get noticed and given a platform, which is so cool since more sad girl books to read for me.
About Jillian, I'd say this one is definitely super depressing and sad. We get to the ugly and the nitty-gritty effects of mental illness/drug addition to the victims and how the people around them are affected and (sometimes) oblivious to what they're going through. This has not plot and if you're not into that, better stay away from this book because it's purely character study. Sometimes, I read for character study alone. It's one of the reasons why I love reading so much. I like seeing the vulnerability of humanity.
Although, I must say that I liked The New Me a little better than this one. The New Me felt more cohesive story-wise whereas Jillian struggled to keep the two main characters' story related. They lead different lives but I did not see how their struggles related to each other. I wish that was explored a little bit more. Overall, it's a decent read.
