When I saw the title and cover for the book, I was dying to read it. I love a good fake relationship trope. Sadly, I just couldn’t get into the romance as much. There were so many silly hijinks going on, and it felt like it took away from building the relationship.

Thanks as always to NetGalley for the ARC.

I wanted so much to love this. The book had all the ingredients that should have made me love it. Unfortunately, it just didn't hit for me.

DID NOT FINISH: 10%

Hmm it’s not bad but it’s very slow and I’m kinda lost compared to book one…

Do you ever just want to love a book but quickly learn that it is not working out for you? That is how this book hit me. It just didn’t work for me. I was really sad too because I read that it had lots of sex and swearing, which I am always in the mood for. The character names just made me cringe and so did their interactions. I just disliked all of them. This was my first book by this author, but I have heard fantastic things, so I will try another. I think this was just the case of the wrong book for the wrong person. With the many five-star reviews, I am sure this book will do well and many people will enjoy. Sadly, that was just not me.

I don't want to be too harsh, because this book is..fine? It's also boring. There's zero real conflict between the main couple and a half-hearted mystery that sort of meanders through the plot, popping up to be filler occasionally. I've liked other Lucy Parker books but had to drag myself through this one.

#CodenameCharming:⁣

Thank you @avonbooks partner for my gifted copy.⁣

Y’all remember when The Killers sang, “how did we end up like this? It was a only a kiss.” Well, now I know how they ended up like that thanks to Codename Charming. ⁣

I LOVED Battle Royal last year and basically vowed to read anything by Lucy Parker. Queue today as Codename Charming affirms my choice in the matter. I cackled out loud for several minutes (I haven’t done that in quite some time) at the banter. Pet was the best. I just adored her. Matthias was the brooding type we all know and love. He gave me Luther from Umbrella Academy vibes. I had high expectations and they were knocked out of the park. The banter, the small details, the steam.. it was another perfect read. ⁣

Lucy Parker, I don’t know what you put in your romcoms, but these two are absolutely some of my favorites I have EVER read. If anyone takes a rec from me this year in the romance department, it’s to grab Battle Royal and Codename Charming. (Out tomorrow 8/15)

I wish for more! I love Pet and Mathias SO MUCH and I just...I'm so sad for it to be over.

Like Battle Royal, this book handles grief and not feeling like you have a settled place SO well, and I loved seeing how Dom and Pet had come together even more since the close of Battle Royal. Just. I feel Very wistful after finishing this, in general.

I had definitely had a flash to what is revealed in the epilogue and I'm delighted that both of the things I kind of thought might be true ended up being true. Just delightful sparkles of joy.

Also, tangentially, I really hope that Jay gets a book, and that his FMC is, indeed,
