It was such a hard book to read, because so much violence is depicted throughout the story. Women characters are treated so bad, that made me feel sick. Their physical, sexual abuse was almost a norm, especially if done by a husband. But I think the historical events were depicted perfectly, most authentic, I felt this weariness, confusion of people, their loss, their want to just be left alone and live in peace, horrors of war...
