Not many books have the ability to make you feel almost every kind of emotion known and experienced by mankind. But Elizabeth Gilbert managed to do just that with this book. I fell in love with this book, and i lived vicariously through Vivian Morris.

For the first few chapters of this book, I was wondering why I had started listening to it. It felt irrelevant, overly sexual, and I hadn't yet started to care about the characters. Some books take you slowly into their grasps. I was listening to the audiobook and I must say Blair Brown was incredible. She must be one of the best narrators out there - impeccable consistency of accents and voices, and she really brought the story alive.
So I continued, and sure enough, became fully swept into the characters and the story, and the challenges of the era. I've seen other reviews say the end fizzled out, and yet I found the dialogue and messages so powerful, I listened to some of the chapters twice.
If you have any negative projections upon "promiscuous women" then this book will either open your mind, or shut you right down. Chapter 31 was the most impactful chapter there was. A powerful message of empowerment for everyone, no matter what others think of you. If there are people out there who still think the number of sexual partners a woman has determines whether she is "good" or "bad", then I hope this book can help you expand your world view, even if just a little.

I loved reading about the theater world of 1940s New York. The story and characters of this time were quite interesting.

The first half of the book had me captivated, but the ending got slow and the books beginning only comes back into play at 85% complete or so. I wish we heard more about Frank, Nathan, and those later moments in life in as much interesting detail as her 20s.

It felt like the story wasn’t going anywhere exciting. This might be great if you’re wanting a light, easy, relaxing read, especially if you’re interested in the world of theatre. I found myself getting a little bored and didn’t feel invested enough at 35% to continue.
