This was a realistic look into life with mental illness and well done at that.

This was an interesting and fascinating take into the world of mental illness. Here is Piper, who’s just starting her freshman year of college. At a party she attends she meets Toby, a sophomore and football player who becomes obsessively drawn to her. Shortly after they start a whirlwind romance, with moments of Toby’s demons coming through. The novel takes you through alternating chapters as Piper learns more about Toby’s demons and struggles to help him. But Toby doesn’t seem to want to help himself nor how to ask for it. That becomes apparent the night they find wind up in the hospital with Toby’s life in peril. I found myself laughing and hurting with both characters, wondering what feelings they’d evoke next from me. This is a story that deals with love, forgiveness, and accepting who you are.

This was ok. I like that the author had a hero with depression. We need more of these mental health issues highlighted and normalised. However it’s all a bit shallow. I just don’t think she made the love story believable. You never really understand why the 2 mcs love each other. It’s all tell and no show.
