Really interesting book - can someone who is genuinely nice and saint-like survive in modern (well, almost modern) society? Or are they just amusing idiots who should be protected?

from its beginning, for some reason, this book captivated me instantly in a way FMD’s other works haven’t (they are slowburns after all). i’m about 5 minutes out since i finished the novel and god i feel like this feeling is going to last me the next month. that ending will leave you with such melancholy it feels infinite. truly haven’t had a novel that has affected me like this in a long time. don’t listen to anyone that says it’s boring, pay attention to the characters to the shifts to the precarious balance the novel juggles and you will get a lot out of it. much like his other works this work is about faith, the ongoing faithless in russia at the time, love, philosophy, everything. adored it.
