Crash

J.G. Ballard

Body horror madness, it's hard to know what to think of this novel. But for me Ballard's phantasmagoric writing style and langue, which was at times both beautiful and repulsive, that lifted this book up forming being just plain weird and off-putting to something more surreal and compelling. This is one challenging (and disturbing) read, but anyone whose a David Cronenberg/Lynch fanatic would owe it to themselves to give it a try.

The non-linear babling about how he remembers stuff from I don’t even know where in 1st chapter while thinking about his friend, and then from his hospital bed, this just all made no sense to me.

Admirable not only for its audacity, but also for its systematic use of purely clinical language that willfully blurs the boundary between machine and body. But unlike the film adaptation, I found this increasingly repetitive and therefore somewhat tedious to read beyond the halfway point.

i have a lot of mixed feelings about this book. for one it was interesting commentary, and the ideas about the erotic/death connection were interesting for sure. but i found it hard to read, confusing at times, and often too graphic for my liking. am fine with violence but the sexual violence really disturbed me. i know that’s the intent but i can’t say i Enjoyed this book

i love crash i wish bisexuals were real

an introspective analysis of j.g. ballard's crash:
every single character has sex with every single other character, all of which encounters takes place in a car.
while this auto-orgy may have been considered a piece of "controversial literature" in 1973, when it was written, the last time i checked my 2007 dictionary 220 pages of sexual intercourse interspersed with 4 pages of dialogue was a piece of "porn screenplay."
