I wanted to love this and enjoy it so much. The idea behind it is so unique but the execution fell flat for me. Right from the start there was lack of background and information. The world building was practically non-existent in my eyes. I was fairly confused and just felt disappointed and disconnected from these characters. Elle is an immortal adult who does not give off those vibes at all. I felt like I was reading about a teenager. It was one thing that kept me from being immersed into the story, along with the jumbled and disjointed world building.
Wonderful idea, just poor execution. Thank you so much to netgalley and the publishers for an arc copy in exchange for an honest review.

i had a great time with this! it managed to avoid a lot of the problems i have with romance (glaring miscommunication, overreaction/automatic distrust, typical third act breakup) while still including realistic emotional and relational pitfalls. all while introducing a really cool world! at one point i honestly thought we were wrapping up and turns out i was just over halfway through - because it takes us through the "what after" portion that i so often feel i miss out on

I am not normally a romance fan, but I was intrigued by the multinational themes in the book and the fantasy aspects. I am so glad I took a chance because these characters are awesome! The romance was wonderfully played out and emotionally mature. The sibling relationships were so realistic and as someone with a big brother, there were a lot of moments between Elle and Tony that made me cackle!
I am only docking a quarter of a star because I would have liked to see more of the world that was set up. It seemed really cool and I wanted a bit more atmosphere to soak in.
All in all, a fantastic debut and I really hope Mia Tsai revisits this world at some point!

I enjoyed this book and the premise; there's a little inconsistency with the pacing and but I would definitely read more in this world. There was also some times I wanted it to lean more into the fantasy and less into the romance side of the mix, but that's very possible more related to the mood reading I was looking for than the book itself.

I liked this more as a fantasy than a romance. It was hard to be invested in their relationship when they had already met prior to the beginning of the book and it didnt feel like there was very much romantic development. they weren't in a relationship and then they were.
the magic was very interesting though and the action scenes were fast-paced and fun to read. also enjoyed the complicated family dynamics. the sibling banter was so real.and Elle's brother the villian (don't remember his name) was so interesting! his and Elle's relationship with him being her younger brother and Elle still feeling a sense of loyalty, while he just wants revenge. So Good! Elle's brother the disappointment (dont remember his name either) was so annoying, I could almost understand why villian brother was villianing the way he was!
didn't love this, but would def read other books by this author!
