I really enjoyed reading this book. The FMC Lark is feisty and funny. The MMC Cerulean is a bit mean and a bit of an arse. Their banter is great and the rest of the story unfolds nicely around them. Can’t wait to jump into the next one and see what happens with the rest of the characters!

It is in my humble opinion that Natalia Jaster receives not even a fraction of the praise she deserves.
She has a way of writing love, especially the confession of love, so artfully (both verbal and nonverbal)
It feels like poetry. It feels personal. It grabs me by the heart, and I feel the weight of her words days, weeks later.

I have been obsessed with reading books about Fae lately, and this one did not disappoint. I was a bit skeptical at first since the main characters reminded me a lot of Jude and Cardan(both I cannot stand) so I was worried I wouldn’t like this book, but I really liked the story and the world.
Lark enters the world of the Fae to escape poachers along with her sisters. Because of this, they are now forced into a bargain with the Fae. Basically, each have to play a game. Win and they’re set free. But lose, you die. In Lark’s situation, she’s sent to the ruler of the sky’s kingdom where she has to navigate a labyrinth and survive to the end to win. Cerulean, ruler of the sky, does not make it easy.
What I really liked about this book is how Natalia Jaster describes everything! I felt like I was in Alice in Wonderland and I felt like I could see and sense everything Lark did. Her descriptions are on point, and made the world utterly fascinating.
I honestly was not a huge fan of either Lark or Cerulean, although I love the way Cerulean spoke with his non-stop use of alliterations, it was great! They definitely were meant for each other, both rather vulgar, very tough, pushing each other to do and be better. The romance was okay to me, there was a lot, and I mean A LOT of steaminess in this book, but I felt the romance was a bit lackluster.
Overall, I give this book a 3.5 ⭐️ rating. I mainly loved the way it was written and the world more than anything. If you love Fae that are similar to Folk of the Air, I do recommend it!

I had so much fun with this one! This was everything I wanted The Cruel Prince to be. So much more angst + sexual tension mixed in with thrilling fae dynamics and whimsical settings/atmosphere. There is a high focus on animals, both fae and "normal" animals. I really enjoyed this aspect and the creativity behind the magical abilities associated with each. Lark's confidence in her sexual experiences reminded me a lot about how ACOTAR handled Feyre's character as well and I'm happy to see more women/teens in books being in control of their body and not always being the shy virgin we see over and over again. I loved the game aspect of this, even though it got sidetracked often. Sometimes I really wanted Lark to actually have to suffer from something in the game just to show true risk but often she got saved before anything actually happened to her. Regardless, it was still loads of fun and super creative! Lark's relationship with her family was heartwarming and I was sad to see them have to split away in the beginning but I think Lark was able to develop best on her own in this adventure. Can't wait for the future books!

I wanted to like this book, it seemed right up my alley but either it wasn’t the right time for me to read this book or it just didn’t speak to me.
I got it as a Christmas present and I have never heard of it before. The story sounded promising but it took me almost 50 pages to get to the actual story and once I did it just jumped from one thing to another without pausing or making sense of the story.
I rarely DNF books but this one was one I just couldn’t finish.

Woof. This was not good. I can’t exactly put my finger on it but I think most of it was due to the writing style. I just did not vibe with it. The world building was confusing, I wasn’t convinced the characters were truly in love with each other and the enemies to lovers shift was way too abrupt so it didn’t feel real or believable. I won’t be continuing the rest of the series.

I loved how easy it was for me to picture the world they’re in- everything is described in great detail down to the voice of the characters. This book was an incredible get away and so much fun to read. Literally had me giggling kicking my feet the whole time. Loved this.
