Really interesting concept and good writing. I liked the background story of the house of hunger and it would have been cool to see more about that i was half expecting the creature to be dwelling in the caves. I feel like there was just something missing from it all.
Also why would Lisavet kiss her a second time

(Tried to read this in May 2024)
- I got to 37% of the book, until chapter 12, and it was all an INTRODUCTION. If the book was part of a series then I would get it, but this is an stand alone and just now she’s about to meet the supposed romance interest?
- I’m not so sure there is going to be any romance at all.
- I was expecting vampires and I got people with a weird fetish for blood.
- Nothing was happening, the book was not giving at all, so I’m not giving one more minute of my time lol I truly don’t care about this.

For a gothic, sapphic, vampire horror this was...fine...I guess?
The world building felt half-baked and lackluster which was disappointing given the gothic setting of a spooky castle shrouded in myster. There are two main geographic areas -- one in the north and one in the south -- very smartly named The North and The South. There's some kind of implied magical storm border between the two that is impossible to traverse except by a train that runs on cow blood. Confused? Want more detail? Too bad. You're not gonna get any. We only know the name of one city in this entire world and it's not even the city where the majority of the story takes place. The nobility consume human blood for its purported magical healing properties, but that's as deep as the lore goes. Try not to think too hard about the hows and whys of this world, it'll only lead to more unanswered questions.
The characters lack dimension and often do things completely at odds with their written characterization earlier in the story. The main character is hard to root for because what she lacks in personality, she makes up for in making the stupidest decisions imaginable.
The romance (if we can call it that) was not it for me personally. It felt mired in a "love-at-first-sight" kind of obsession and corrupted by the power imbalance between the characters. Bummer too because I wanted this to be a banger of a lesbian vampire romance so badly.
I feel like this had all the makings of a genre bending gothic/horror romance, I just wish it had been left to marinate a little longer.

Spoiler
Tell me why she has the audacity to be shocked after trusting the one character who is consistently duplicitous and cruel with her secret plans of escape? I simply cannot feel bad for you babes you walked into that one face first. The romance (if we can call it that) was not it for me personally.
