Ugh this book was so good. Really captivating, really interesting and sad at the same time seeing this woman's whole world unravel and fall apart.

I hate cheating trope so much with every cell of my being :) if it was only a brief event, i can skim it over but if it's the center of the story, bye. Just personal preference~

The book was actually painful to read, the main character of the first part of the book was son negative, it actually made me hate her. Every time I tried reading some more, I’d end un with a headache.

This book is a collection of three short stories. The first, The Age of Discretion, deals with a woman who is losing her child to his wife, and is facing criticism on her newest published work. It’s wonderfully written, and an excellent exploration on what it means to be a middle-aged woman in a time where so much uncertainty is faced. The second, The Monologue, was dreadful to read for me. It’s written in stream-of-consciousness style, which I found incredibly hard to follow, especially when it’s written from the point of view of a frankly terribly miserable woman. The final story, The Woman Destroyed, I found very enjoyable. It deals with a woman who is dealing with her husband’s affair after 22 years of marriage & the effects of it. I love how it explored the autonomy of woman, the patriarchal nature of marriage, and how even polite society loves a good bit of drama. Simone De Beauvoir you will always be famous.

honestly i loved it. i love exploring female rage because all my life i felt as if i couldn't be angry. and now i'm reading these women (granted they're fake) be angry and it inspires me to be angry. i love it. related a little too hard to the last character but overall, i have a thing for feminine rage >:).
