Blameless

I enjoy so much about this series - the character and world building are fascinating and I appreciate the sense of humor but I have to admit, I found myself skimming big chunks of this particular installment. The actual narrative is awkward, forced, and much of the characters' behavior feels strangely motivated. I'll keep reading but hoping for things to pick up in the next volume.

Take the lady out of London and the series falls flat. I do appreciate the wit and humor, but the action hero aspect of this novel was dreary.

I didn't want to continue after the last book, but this book moved the story right along. I'm not sure how these hold together plot-wise, but they are fun to read just for the characters.

I probably read Blameless too quickly to truly appreciate it. That in itself is good praise in my estimation. There was a lot of action, especially of the rough and tumble kind where we do come to the realization of how lucky women are to be able to do their adventuring in pants rather than dresses without leaving huffy people in their wake. The reader discovers much more about the nature of the various supernatural (and preternatural) creatures that wander the world, something which I find rather satisfying.

I think my only complaint about this particular tale is that Lady Maccon forgives Lord Maccon for his harsh accusation, words and treatment from the very end of [b:Changeless|6933876|Changeless (Parasol Protectorate, #2)|Gail Carriger|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1292566141s/6933876.jpg|7165488] far too easily.

Yes, the 2nd book ended on an upsetting cliffhanger but I was promised all gets resolved satisfactorily--and it did! Of course, you do get to have an adventure across Western Europe with Alexia and co before earning said resolution. Totally worth it!

There was more preternatural history in this book and more split POVs. We get quite a lot of page time from Professor Lyall, whom I truly enjoy. Alexia gets to be righteously angry with her husband and Connal gets to be sloshed and silly, knowing he's in the wrong.

I enjoyed finally getting to dive into the infamous Templars and seeing supernaturals in non-English settings. The author certainly has fun expanding her world while keeping our characters just as witty and classy. For the most part--some hijinks are less dignified than others

This one was definitely better than book two. I can't say I love these, but for some reason I can't stop reading them either.

Loved it! Alexia is a witty and practical character that I can relate to more than anyone else. I'll just have to keep reading now, I can't possibly take anything else between this series :D
