Given the ending of Changeless, there was really only one thing that I demanded of this book, and I feel satisfied that I got it. I'm very much looking forward to the next book in the series, and am very glad I don't have to wait very long for it.

Loved the tension in this book. And the choice to refer to the baby as a infant-inconvenience just made me laugh. Off to read the next one.

I really enjoyed Blameless. I can't possibly say this is great literature but it is great escapist material. I never went for more than a few pages without chuckling. It's just good silly, smart fun. Ms. Carriger is great at turning a funny phrase, both honoring and satirizing historical romances at the same time. The steampunk elements are fun. Alexia is a character that is so richly drawn. Actually, most of the characters are well drawn.
So, did lots of silly things happen in the book? Sure. Was that part of the fun? Yup! With Carriger, getting there is more than half the fun; the destination is enjoyable, but almost beside the point. Also, as with the previous two books in the series, the narration is fantastic.

[9/10]

You would think the third book in a quintet series would be the middle child of the pack, but not so with this one. It yanked me in and it did not let go. I'll admit that has a lot to do with the unhappiness and wrongness of where the book begins, which pushes me to get to the happier ending as quickly as possible. But even so, I read this entire book in just one day.

This is the one where I developed a Favorite Character, and a not-so-great thing happens to him, and boy did it hurt to read. Also Alexia is on a real journey in this one, and I was along for that ride with zero complaints. Character development is my very most favorite thing, and this book has that in droves.

The pacing in this book is relentless and it was extremely difficult for me to put down. Not only is there a lot of backstory and further world-building in this one, but it's all coming out on the backdrop of rich intrigue and higher-stakes danger. The thing about this one is that the religion and politics that it brings to the in-world culture are fascinating. It feels more substantial than other books in the series for that reason.

I think this one is actually my favorite on re-read. It seems ridiculous considering where it falls, not only in the timing but also in the plot, but I really loved this one.
