I enjoyed this sweet book. Lois uses Gooney Bird as a way to teach children how to tell good stories because Gooney Bird is a natural story telling. Throughout the book she gives tips for story telling. Plus, Gooney Bird is awesome. She is a great character who I am glad to have meet. I can't believe I didn't know her until now.

I want to know more about the quirky character called Gooney. Fun times for kids reading on their own for the first time.

This was such a cute story! It talks about how to tell a good story and add surprises to it. It has an Amelia Bedlia feel to as well. The whole class including the teacher thinks she is talking about something esle, but Gooney Bird always tells absolutely true stories! Her clothes are fairly wacky which adds a funny element to the story. I highly recommend this book and can not wait to read the rest!

Gooney Bird Greene is perfectly cute, the chapters could be used in stand-alone sections, and the text would be a good fit for students who are still developing stamina in late primary classes. LOVED the message that comes in the end about everyone finding stories inside.

Better than Junie B Jones, not as good as the Fudge books.

Eve & I listened to this on our way to and from school this week. It's a very fun story with great characters who make you want to read more! Highly recommend it for 1st & 2nd graders!

This was the latest read-aloud story with my girls -- we all loved Gooney Bird! My girls laughed at Gooney Bird's "absolutely true" stories (especially when they discovered the clever play-on-words) and the description of the second graders in Gooney Bird's class was perfect. Such a fun book to read together!

This is a cute, funny, very fast read... Would be great for first or second graders!

Manic Pixie Dream Second Grader!

We got the whole Gooney Bird Collection on audio for our recent car trip, but only listened to the first story. My 6 and 7 year old boys enjoyed it, but their parents did not. The author was very repetitive and the story was a bit annoying/silly. It seemed a little like a copy of Pippi Longstocking, but not nearly as cute. I will get these books for my son to read on his own.
