I feel like with terry pratchet books so much of the themes fly past my head and I can only catch the shape of it.

I like the commentary on who is above or below the law the but at the end with the Patrician made me furious like vimes . The commentary on the us vs them mentality is so good and the futility of war.

Tbh tho I didn’t really keep up mentally with the bit with the patrician  nobby  etc I need to reread these bits I don’t quite know what those added . If they felt more substantial this would be five stars

It’s hilarious that the klatchian script is just a different font of english.

I quite loved the twist of
the attempted assassination of the prince being of klatchian origin and not from the ankh morporian side like sam vimes insisted on. There’s a theme in the past two city watch books of sam vimes not “thinking” which will be interesting to follow. 71 Ahmed being a copper was such good too.

I can’t remember if it was this book or feet of clay where carrots flaws is highlighted. There’s a quote where vines says “
carrot didn’t believe that personal was the same as important … there was something kind of creepy about someone who didn’t just believe it but lived their life by it
”. YES YES YEs. It’s so satisfying to see carrot being flawed in a realistic way it arises due to the way he already operates. Although Angua’s qualms also arise out of insecurity and paranoia. It makes sense that she’d be upset.
I would too.  Taking notes.

Overall a book to come back to On My Shelf !!!! Just as always a bit confused by Nobby and Colon
