I started reading this book per guidance of a lifeguard who is helping me learn how to swim. Mildly inspirational but its hard to relate because well, I am not a swimmer. The feelings she has I have yet to experience but it was a nice read.

"Black and brown bodies"

So... what?  White folks get to be intellect and soul and heart and all that stuff, but everybody else is just a "body"?  Don't need to read any further. Should have put that in the intro, and saved us a hundred pages.

An interesting look at the human fascination with water. Interweaves personal stories from the author and notable swimmers with scientific perspectives and an in depth look at different cultures and traditions associated with the water. A quick, engrossing read.
