This is my first Adele Parks novel and she was recommended by several people.

This one is labeled a thriller and is about two wives who abruptly go missing. This is investigated by DC Clements and the story is told through several characters with flashbacks. The pace of the book is a slow burn which is something I enjoy.

The only negative of the book is I thought it was very predictable. In fact, I figured it out around halfway and then finished to see how the book handled the ending. I think Adele Parks is a talented writer and will definitely read more books by her but this one, in the end, was average.

Thank you to netgalley for giving me a ARC (in pdf format) for a honest review.

Around 20% through I'd guessed what was going to happen at the end of the book, but I didn't think it would be caused by the person it was! Really interesting to read about someone living a double life

I went into this one expecting a family drama, so I was pleasantly surprised when it turned out to be so much more than that, as I found myself reading a dark and mysterious thriller!

We follow two families as they try to cope with the disappearance of their wives/mother, and this was the best part of the book for me, Adele Parks is brilliant at getting right to the heart of people’s emotions and family dynamics, her writing is perceptive and I really enjoyed the psychological element of the story as we are invited to put ourselves in the protagonists’ place. It was brilliantly thought provoking.

I had mixed feelings about most of the characters as the author cleverly plants doubts in your mind about all of them and so I didn’t know who to trust or who to sympathise with, and this completely ramped up the tension for me.

The writing is addictive as it’s full of twists and mind games. And with a storyline including themes of adultery, betrayal, motherhood and grief it was a very entertaining and suspenseful read. It kept me guessing all the way through and had me wondering what was next for everyone at the end! ☺️

Don’t expect the plot twist to make any sense, because it doesn’t.
