This book gives major Studio Ghibli vibes. It's a heartwarming tale about legacy, second chances, the meaning of life, and making desserts. Like Sentaro's dorayaki, this book adds some saltiness to balance out the sweetness and produce an even more potent effect. I went into this book thinking it would be a little more lighthearted than it is, but I am not at all disappointed by the fact that it was a bit more sad and serious than I expected. The fact that it explored some dark places actually made the story more uplifting in the end, I believe. I think this is a fantastic book to read if you need a little reminder than you're not alone and your life has value.

The only think preventing me from giving it a perfect rating is I think that the short and sweet length, while perfect for the story the book is telling, didn't give me the time to get quite invested enough to be absolutely blown away, but I still loved this story. Highly recommend.
