I could cite hundreds of passages and still feel the need to add more... Fleabag is just that impactful and I dare to say holy/iconic. Reading the scriptures feels like a step ahead, grasping the left-out details, and at the same time like seeing the series for the first time, falling in love with it once again.
The only change is what emotion is the most prominent at the end, and for this time and this version of me what I get is... hope.

“I have a horrible feeling that I am a greedy, perverted, selfish, apathetic, cynical, depraved, morally bankrupt women who can’t even call herself a feminist”

“Don’t make me hate you. Loving you is painful enough”

“Women are born with pain built in. It’s our physical destiny. Period pains, sore boobs, child birth, you know. We carry it within ourselves throughout our lives. Men don’t. They have to seek it out. They invent all sorts of gods and demons and things so they can feel guilty about things, which is something we do very well on our own. Then they create wars so they can feel things and touch each other, and when there are any wars they play rugby. We already have it all going on here, inside. We have pain in a cycle for years and years and years….”

“I sometimes worry that I wouldn’t be such a feminist if I had bigger tits”

“I think you know how to love better than any of us. That’s why you find it all so painful”

“Live is awful! It’s awful. It’s painful. It’s frightening. It makes you doubt yourself, judge yourself, distance yourself from the other people in your life. Makes you selfish, makes you creepy. It makes you obsessed with your hair. Makes you cruel. Makes you say and do things you never thought you would do. It’s all any of us want and it’s hell when we get there. So no wonder it’s something we don’t want to do on our own. I was taught that if we’re born with love, then life is about choosing the right place to put it. People talk about that a lot. It ‘feeling right’.  ‘When it feels right, it’s easy.’ But I’m not sure that’s true. It takes strength to know what’s right. And live isn’t something weak people do. Being a romantic takes a hell of a lot of hopes I think they mean us …. When you find somebody that you love…. It feels like hope.”

“I love you”
“It’ll pass”

Obviously I really like the TV show or wouldn't be reading the scripts but this book gave me an additional level of enjoyment seeing how the writing informed the final production. The stage directions, though minimal, help to show how thought through every scene is and the writing is incredible on places. Every episode is packed with humour, relatable moments and drama. A different way to enjoy an incredible piece of work.
