This book was a little hard for me at times. I enjoyed it overall, for sure, but there were several points where I put the book down and had to talk myself into picking it back up again. Honestly, I think that's because I am not a sadist or a masochist and there were moments where I was uncomfortable 'watching and/or relating' to some of the terrible things that our protagonist experienced. There were also a handful of moments where I wasn't... pleased... with things that our protagonist did. It wasn't 'slap you in the face with stupidity or unlikeability' but it was... occasionally cause for small amounts of concern, directed at her. I already opted to pick up the next book in this series. Will continue until and unless the problem stuff becomes too much the focus for me. Hard to describe it more than that without a LOT more text and or spoilers.
I loved this book! I love how Robin keeps trying to overcome her passivity (through books!) and how determined she is to get what belongs to her, even when the path turns sideways. Her interactions with the demon are adorable. And I love how curious and pragmatic the demon is. The contrast between behavior he thinks is acceptable and the behavior required in this world makes for some great moments.
Wonderful world building. A fun, light, action-filled read for fans of urban fantasy.

I don't know what I expected but definitely not how good it was. First let me say that Zylas (it took me like an hour to find his name) is amazing and I LOVE him. I love how his simple quirks of being lazy and curious are portrayed (by napping all the time and taking apart a tv). It makes his that more interesting. Also he is clearly physically and mentally strong but not an ""alpha male""". He is protective but reasonably so.
For Robin, she is incredibly weak. And I actually like that. I love how she doesn't immediately adapt to the magical work. Like many of us who would be plucked from their normal life she is not very strong. But she had already shown a lot of improvement and that only in the first book. I'd love to see where the next books will take her and Zylas developing relationship.
What I do think was very annoying was how much of the plot seemed the same. They got into the same situation like three times.
But oh well.
I haven't had as much fun as reading an urban fantasy since mortal instruments and that was like 6 years ago so that says a lot.
2nd read: after reading the entire spellbound series im starting this series again. I just can't get over how good this book is.
3rd read: IS menTaL IllNess InnIT
4th read: is there gonna be a day I'm completely sick of this book? Maybe?? Not this day though I still love it to death

Fun. Moved at a speedy pace, characters relatively predictable, but plot, premise, and the actions of the characters were engaging enough. A quick read - definitely felt like an episode that was part of a season.
Love it. I literally devoured this book cuz it was so good.
I waited until I finished the series before writing a review. I really enjoyed the entire series! There is definitely some fluff in it which reminds me of anime where the main character is just baking for the demon, but I still enjoyed even the slower portions of these books. It was easy to read and I found all the characters easy to like and developed in ways that made for a good series. I will read more by Annette Marie because I enjoyed these books so much.
