This wasn't exactly what I expected, but I found that I enjoyed what it turned out to be. I liked Robin. She was mousey when faced with confrontation, but a dragon when left to her own devices to do the right thing. Her demon (I'm not even gonna try and spell his name since I
listened to the audio) was marvelously sarcastic. But what I really liked was that he wasn't The Biggest and The Baddest. He's plenty tough, but not brutish and more interested in being sneaky and smart than physically strongest.

As I said, I've come to understand this is part of a bigger world, containing several series. I didn't know this when I picked the book up. But I also didn't feel I was missing anything for having not read them. I understood the world, magic systems, etc. Though I will admit that a couple side characters have that cameo feel and I wonder if they are from other series.

All in all, I think dive right into book two.

Such a great book! I loved the moment when she was giving him a massage and he fell asleep.

5 Stars.

Well, what can I say? Annette Marie does not disappoint. That word is just not even on her radar. My favorite series from her is still Red Winter, but this was pretty damn close.

I mean, Robin (h) and Zylas (H) first interact by chucking cookies at each other. Robin did it blindly out of curiosity since she couldn't see him, but Zylas definitely returned the favor out of ill intent because he aimed right for her head. And that's when I knew I'd fall in love with those two idiots.

And fall I did.

They make a kick-ass team. Zylas's strength and speed is far superior compared to a human's, but in demon standards he belongs to the lowest ring. Robin is tiny and physically quite helpless, but she's compassionate and quick-thinking which has saved both their lives multiple times.

He glided closer, staring down at me. “Small and weak ones like us, payilas, we can still kill the strong.”

Although they both make a fair share of questionable choices, in the end they always have each other's back. There's no stupid drama to be found within a 6 foot radius of them.

I will mention that this book has no romance at all. I can definitely see the potential set up, but the beauty of Annette Marie's books is that she focuses on the action and plot while allowing the romance to blossom slowly. Ugh I just love that woman.

This was so much fun! It‘s not groundbreaking by any means, but I enjoyed the story thoroughly. The characters are endearing and individual and the story is interesting. It feels a bit like a Disney-movie, one of the good ones …
