Got a very Sherlock Holmes vibe about this one. Wax and Wayne or a great duo. Not as amazing as the first era books but still a good book and a fun read.

Surprisingly really enjoyed this book!! Loved Sanderson’s writing once again, reading this after the original trilogy I was worried it wouldn’t live up to the hyped. Instead it was a completely different style of book in the same world, this mysterious style with a detective really suited this world. Loved Wayne and wax and the characters in this book are definitely more fun and relatable than the original books. Look was it an amazing, world saving and captivating fantasy trope like the first? No! But was it a cute little western mystery set in a fantasy world? Yes! Will defo read the next one.

Not nearly as polished or intriguing as Era 1 but I'm also not the biggest fan of westerns nor their tropes. Still a fun read with some laugh out loud moments and intrigue but I just couldn't connect with the characters/plot so far.

I actually loved this book even more than the first era trilogy. Sure, it wasn't quite the epic, high-stakes quest that first era was, but the characters were everything to me in this one. I found Wax to be a very compelling character. Even though he hasn't had a crazy amount of amazing character development yet, the way Sanderson wrote him makes me very excited for the time when that development happens. The Wax and Wayne bromance was wonderful to read about. And I really like Marasi as a character and can't wait to see how she develops through the series.

I loved the plot as well. They weren't saving the world, but I was ok with that. They were saving their world, and I loved going with them on that adventure.

Another thing I really loved was the way first era ties in. The mentions of the various religions that have formed around character we already know and love. Figuring out which beliefs tie in with which events. Hearing Ironeyes thought of as
Spoiler the personification of death, when we know it's just a dumb nickname from Marsh's days in the rebellion
All of that was really fun for me. All in all, this was a fantastic book, and I can't wait to continue the series.
