I received a copy of this book from Netgalley.

I really did enjoy this book overall. I do think the first 2/3rds are very slow. This book could have been a bit shorter, which is something I almost never say. There is not much happening for the most of the book. HOWEVER, when the plot starts to pick up in that last 30%, boy does it pick up. There was twist after twist towards the end. I did see some of the twists coming, but I still think they were amazing twists, and the ending is where it really knocked it out of the park for me. I didn't see that one coming at all. I have only been reading mystery/thriller books for about a year, but I haven't seen an ending quite like that one, or a plot.

Please read this book as soon as you can!

Enjoyed this “literary thriller” more than I thought I would. It was interesting to read an inside perspective on the creative process and brought up legitimate questions about appropriating others ideas. Is there actually an original plot left to be explored? I figured out plot so early that I almost convinced myself that I was wrong. I would recommend this book.

I don’t know how to feel about this book because the first 75% was so slow (I’d say 2 stars), but the last 25% was one twist after another (4 stars). So I’ll average it out to a 3 star rating.

The concept of the book is interesting and a good one but the execution of it was lacking for me. I found myself speeding up the audiobook more than usual and fast forwarding through sections because it would take so long for him to get to his point. You can see every twist a mile away which made it worse to read him dragging out what was supposed to be a mystery. Overall it’s a fine read but if you’re a heavy thriller reader you may find it boring.

Okay, clearly I'm in the minority here when it comes to this book but it didn't do it for me.

This is about an unsuccessful author whos student tells him the "greatest story" with the "greatest plot twist of all time" and a few years later he does a google search, finds out that student died, and then proceeds to write his own book using his students' plot. Finally getting the success and recognition he's dreamed of, Jake's bliss doesn't last long when he receives an email from someone telling him they know he stole the plot.

Overall, I feel like this book spent waaaay too much time hyping up its own super predictable plot twist and when it was finally revealed it was underwhelming. It was a good story but does it hold up to the standard this book set for itself? In my opinion, no. Also the pacing felt off. The first half felt like such a slog to get through I had my audiobook bumped up to 2.5x speed just waiting to get to the end.
