It’s a good idea for a story: a slightly unbelievable Lula  gets books banned from the town library and the school. She creates her own little bookshop of acceptable titles but someone interferes and things go wrong for Lula and right for the rest of the world.      

However, I couldn’t feel  enough empathy for the characters because there were far too many of them. I lost the pattern of who was who. Because there were so many characters Kirsten Miller had to give us a lot of background on each one. Definitely too much telling and not enough showing. Too many paragraphs ran over one screen (font size 7) . 

This is a shame because she examines  an important issue and just very occasionally we get a glimpse of the reasons some folk might act in this  disturbing  way.
