Man I am having a hard time rating this one. Definitely a must read. Important conversations around book banning, slavery/heritage discovery, and ultra-conservative views…but told through a light, fictional town. It was slow for me for the middle, but there were so many important stories takeaways from the various characters that I never considered not finishing it.

I enjoyed this book. I loved the characters and all their stories and I loved the message of it. I'm not going to lie though, I am going to need to re-read it. I am not in a massively clever brain space at the moment and this book has a lot of characters and honestly I got a tiny bit confused about who everyone was. I enjoyed the book and thought it was really good but would probably recommend reading it when you have time and brain space to concentrate.

In theory this could have been a good book, and I like the interconnected characters concept, but I think in places the author is trying too hard to be heavy and then too hard to be light, and it all gets wrapped up in really unrealistic ways with even less realistic dialogue.

Early chapters were a lot of fun. Started to drag about 1/3 of the way in and I didn’t find the plot line from that point o ward to be all that engaging. Would have loved this book as more of a collection of vignettes that didn’t necessarily tie together aside from the book swap.
