"I'm so intellectual. I run around with my friends committing petty crimes and pondering the meaning of life, or rather, the lack thereof."

That was basically all this book had to say. I honestly got nothing from it. While the pace was interesting and even exciting at times, the characters were one-sided and the plot had more holes than a fishing net. How is it that a single small town could turn out such a high number of sociopaths? Why didn't any of the kids drop out when things got serious? How were they not caught after months of running around stealing things, robbing graves, chopping off body parts, and killing animals? Why would anyone let one 13-year-old prick affect their lives so deeply? And maybe most importantly, where the hell were these kids' parents?

Overall, I thought the presentation of the whole "what is the meaning of life??????" theme was very surface-level and quite repetitive. This book kind of ruined nihilism for me, and this review probably wouldn't have been so harsh if I wasn't still bitter about that.

It wasn't the way I thought it'd be.

Insanely disturbing.

It is difficult to put into words what I think about this book. Shock, horror, disturbing, psychotic, unrealistic, realistic, Sophie...none of those words truly capture what Nothing is. At one point I got a bit light headed from parts. And you must realize, this is only one of a couple books that have made me physically ill.

With this said, it was still a wonderful book. I'm still in shock from it all though. Especially the ending...

And now I am off to look for a fluff piece of writing!

I almost gave up about 40 pages in, but I was on the road with no back-up book so I ended up finishing it. (Note to self: always take a back-up book.) It was disturbing and creepy.
I understand what point the author is trying to make but there were so many unrealistic elements that kept pushing me out of the story. I mean there is no way these kids could do all this without any adults noticing what was going on. For starters, why didn't anyone tell Pierre to come down of that tree and go right back to school?

Det er vel 12 år siden jeg læste bogen, men jeg husker den stadig tydeligt. Den har endelig fundet vej hjem i min bogreol, og jeg tror, at den skal genlæses meget snart.

Couldn't put it down. Loved it from start to finish and really made you think about the way you see life and what's in it. Recommended read.

Menuda BARBARIDADE. Rin a cachón e me horrorizou a partes iguais. Brillantísimo e recomendadísimo.
