Frank definitely comes across as frustrated, if not downright angry, which made this audiobook engaging but also requires some intentional effort as a listener to filter though the emotion and bias to focus on the facts.
Very interesting take on American politics and its ripples to social and economic disparity and polarization in the last few decades. Some points I find compelling, others I disagree with, and yet others I find uncomfortable probably because it points a finger at my demographic (and perhaps rightly so). Personally found some parts very relatable since the author also has also called KC home. This was published during the first Trump presidency, making it especially interesting and still incredibly apt reading it now when Trump is president elect for a second term.

Thomas Frank brought up the question with "What's The Matter With Kansas?", then predicted the oncoming disaster in "Listen, Liberal", so he's more than earned the right to write an analysis of the aftermath.
Terrific chronicle of the last few years by one of our country's most insightful, erudite, essayists. And downright funny at times, too. Frank's level-headed thinking and thoughtful solutions ring true.
Collection of essays - some good, and some that I fundamentally disagree with.
Another excellent book from Thomas Frank, author of Listen, Liberal and What's the Matter With Kansas. This one is a collection of slightly updated essays that appeared in various publications and on websites between 2011 and 2018. As always, he excels in describing what it is that ails our political system. His prescription for the Democrats: stop catering to the desires of the corporate, coastal based elites and start helping the working class that used to make up the backbone of the Democratic party. Otherwise, get ready for a second Trump administration in 2020. I think he might be on to something.

Frank’s combination of insightful analysis, moral passion, and keen satirical wit make these essays both entertaining and an important commentary on the times.

These essays are sharp-tongued snippets of the history of the last seven years, with reference to those that preceded them … Well done, Mr. Frank. May we please have some more?
Liz Burton, Portable Soup
The collected essays in Rendezvous show Frank’s commentary to not only be insightful, but more importantly eminently readable. He has a distinctive, sardonic style, that somehow makes even the discussion of the calamities of recent times engaging and entertaining.
