Gornick is a brilliant writer, but I think her strengths were more in writing about writers and literature than anything else.

This book gave me a new perspective on so many marginalized things I didn't know before (the things that I only had heard of). Gornick's way of reviewing and her opinion on all this are also intriguing to read—making this an easy read (meaning that I don't have to read a sentence multiple times to understand it lol)

A good vehicle to find other good books; enjoyed the essays a lot but found they were all fairly similar in style.

Includes epic literary annihilation of James Salter and Philip Roth – a joy to read!
