This is one book I wish I'd read as a kid, because there are things in it that, as an adult reading it for the first time, I just can't get past. It's the whole Oompa Loompa story line. It's just so wrong on every level!

I can find no fault with this book. It's whimsical, fun, challenging, and has a point. Good read for any kid.

I loved this book as a kid. I read it with my second grade class, and they enjoyed it enough but I don’t think I will read it again. It was long and I had to edit as I went a lot for talk about shooting guns and fat phobic comments. the first third was long and kids were not into it until we got to the factory.

Pre-read review:
I recently took on a book challenge to re-read a book I loved as a child. Right away, this book came to mind as my first choice. Now, as I read it again, I'm curious to see if I'll love it as much as I did back then or if my feelings will change. Either way, this book means a lot to me because it was a big part of my childhood.

I have my lovely sister to thank for that. Every day after coming home from university, she would read this book to me because my English wasn't very good back then. Her patience and the memories we shared made this book special. As I re-read it now, I remember both the story and the love my sister showed me by reading it to me.

um mister roald dahl, pls talk to me why you make your story sound tad bit misogynistic? why must the women only be gossiping or something going wrong because of a female?
i had ordered this expensive book 280 rupees only for you to ask me to buy the second part? frankly i am quite disappointed. i was planning to read the book then watch the old movie of the book title and timothe chalamet’s musical. I am afraid that is all which’ll compensate for my slight disappointment and that too with my first roald dahl. movies based on your books leave me with a unsatisfied ending. perhaps u trusted wes anderson too much for i was wanting to read everything you had published. i do like wes anderson’s fantastic mr fox tho. i’ll waste someone’s hard earned money on you four times now and they will be last time. i shall order fantastic mr fox, matilda, charlie chocolate factory part 2 and perhaps a book of my choice if i leave satisfied with other famous works of yours.

for a children’s book, it did have a quite good vocabulary in it. i suppose all your stories have a weird character. only time will tell whether you’ll become one of my fav children book authors or not!
